Self-Publishing In Less Than a Few Clicks
By JJ Thomas • Dec 13th, 2007 • Category: TechnologyWith the ease of entrepreneurship ever increasing, many people are becoming “experts” in their fields and are attempting to spread the word about their knowledge. In doing so, these entrepreneurs are utilizing the low cost, sometimes free, technologies available today.
One such technology is a blog. “Blog” is short for weblog and is basically a website that is chock full of short informational posts. Many entrepreneurs specialize their blog in a a certain niche topic so as to draw in a more targeted audience. Some of the more popular options are Word Press, Blogger and Movable Type.
However, to some entrepreneurs and small business owners, especially those in the professional services field, a blog is just not enough. So, many refer back to the tried and true book. Yes, people still read and write books. However, the ease and affordability of publishing a book has increased dramatically over the last few years. There are many online websites that enable the most novice of potential author to develop a fully marketable book in very little time with, relatively, very little cost. A few of these websites are LuLu, Blurb, Author House and BookSurge.
Now, maybe a daily or weekly blog post isn’t your thing and maybe developing a full-fledged book is also a little too much in either the time or money category. Well, you have yet another low cost and easy option to spread the word about your particular expertise, newsletters. Newsletters are not altogether new, however, the technologies behind their development and distribution are and this is what has enabled pretty much anyone familiar with email to utilize this technology. Some of the more prevalent newsletter services on the web today are Constant Contact, iContact, Campaigner and Vertical Response.
So, the bottom line is that in today’s world you need to market and brand yourself and you need to reach a global market of potential clients or customers. To do this, it is often best to qualify yourself as an “expert,” or at least a highly reliable source of information on a particular subject or topic. With the above technologies this process is much more affordable and a lot easier and efficient than ever before.
